WesBanco has been a leader in its communities for many years, and we want to continue to take a leadership role by noting our stance for equality.  We believe that by creating a supportive community culture there is hope for an opportunity for a better tomorrow and we must all do our part.

As CEO, I am looking internally and constantly reaching out to my team members in hopes of having constructive dialogue within our own company on the subject of inclusion. Every single WesBanco team member brings something to the table.  We are a group of diverse backgrounds and ethnicities, and share the same values of dignity and respect for our co-workers, customers, and fellow community members.

WesBanco believes in open, honest discussion. In addition to our women’s symposium, we are adding a diversity and inclusion forum as an added resource and a positive catalyst for how we conduct business. These inclusive programs focus on facilitating educational opportunities, sharing experiences, networking with management, and partnering with mentors. The goal is to ignite and support a passion for our employees to find both personal and professional success.

Our hope is that this not only helps us evolve and grow as a company but that it also spreads to all of our other community efforts.  In fact, during the past year alone, WesBanco has made approximately $1 million of philanthropic donations in support of our communities; in addition to the $0.5 million of pandemic-related grants we distributed to organizations across our footprint. Further, our employees are equally generous, as they have volunteered more than 11,000 hours of personal time across a number of community development services.

The last step, I am taking personally. To affect change, we all must lead by example.  I have been reaching out to the mayors of cities across our footprint, and asking them to include WesBanco in what I am sure will be ongoing community-wide discussions on how corporate America can help move our country forward. Furthermore, I will encourage my peer CEOs to continue to take similar steps.

By working together, honestly and openly, I believe we can make a positive contribution to help bring about the change that we all want to see. We will strive to be transparent in all of our efforts and activities around diversity and inclusion. And that includes being the example first.
